This update represents violence in Nigeria and related to Boko Haram in Cameroon, Chad, and Niger from February 18 to February 24, 2023. 
The map depicts deaths by state. Borno State, in Nigeria's North East, is the epicenter of Boko Haram-related violence, which has also spilled into neighboring Adamawa and Yobe states, among others.

Below is a visualization and description of some of the most significant incidents of political violence in Nigeria from February 18 to February 24, 2023. This update also represents violence related to Boko Haram in Cameroon, Chad, and Niger. These incidents are included in the Nigeria Security Tracker.

 

 

  • February 18: Electoral violence resulted in one death in Ishielu, Ebonyi. 
  • February 18: Gunmen killed three police officers in Idemili North, Anambra. 
  • February 18: Kidnappers abducted three in Ihiala, Anambra. 
  • February 19: One police officer and six suspected Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) members were killed during an attack on a police facility in Oyi, Anambra. 
  • February 19: Bandits abducted two in Giwa, Kaduna.  
  • February 19: The military killed "several" (est. at ten) Boko Haram/Islamic State in West Africa (ISWA) militants in Damboa, Borno. 
  • February 20: The military killed "several" (est. at ten) Boko Haram/ISWA militants in Kukawa, Borno.
  • February 20: The military killed "several" (est. at ten) Boko Haram/ISWA militants in Kukawa,: four police officers and three IPOB/Eastern Security Network militants were killed during a clash in Idemili North, Anambra. 
  • February 21: The military killed "several" (est. at ten) Boko Haram/ISWA militants in Kukawa
  • February 21: Electoral violence resulted in two deaths in Ilesha, Osun. 
  • February 22: Electoral violence resulted in five deaths in Ilesha, Osun. 
  • February 22: Electoral violence resulted in seven deaths in Enugu South, Enugu.
  • February 22: Troops killed five bandits in Birnin-Gwari, Kaduna. 
  • February 22: Electoral violence resulted in the death of one police officer in Orlu, Imo. 
  • February 23: Electoral violence resulted in four deaths in Kano, Kano. 
  • February 24: An anti-smuggling unit killed two police officers in Gusau, Zamfara. 
  • February 24: Gunmen killed one civilian and one police officer in Oshimili North, Delta.
